The Wonders of Wikipedia

We systematically breakdown how Wikipedia was created with some of the HTML elements and CSS styling, showing kids the potential of the things we are currently learning. We also have a discussion about how we can design and create our very own wiki pages for kids to share their knowledge and big ideas with the world.

Margins & Padding with DevTools

Kids are guided on how they can use Developer Tools on their browser to inspect elements on webpages, and find out how CSS margins and padding work by watching them in action!

World’s Greatest Breakthroughs

Kids explore 50 of the world’s greatest breakthroughs since the invention of the wheel, creating a timeline for this and discussing how innovation has brought humanity to where we are today.

  • Prerequisite:
    • Laptop/Computer that can run Zoom
    • Access to a personal e-mail account (Gmail recommended)
    Length of Course: 4 weeks (Once a week for 2 hours)
    • Week 1 – Introduction and Creating Repl Accounts
    • Week 2 – Researching the 50 of the world’s greatest breakthroughs
    • Week 3 – Coding with HTML and CSS
    • Week 4 – Finishing up their projects
Your child will require: 
  • A computer or laptop with a working webcam and microphone, in order to participate in class and for our instructor to check their understanding. Kindly avoid sharing devices.
  • Internet speed of 25Mbps or above. You can check your internet speed here.
  • Familiarity with basic computer functions, such as typing on a keyboard, using a mouse, switching between desktop apps and navigating a browser (opening a new tab, entering URLs)
  • Google Chrome as their default web browser during classes. You may download it here.
  • Installing Zoom is recommended for a smoother learning experience. You may do so here.
  • (For macOS computers, please enable these permission settings)
  • We also recommend that you have an adult member of your household standing by for the first 45 mins of the first class to assist with any technical difficulties that may arise.

1. Who is this course suitable for?

This course is recommended for kids ages 11-14 who have Scratch experience and who have an interest in social and/or global issues.

2. I’ve enrolled my child, what will he/she need for class?

Classes will be conducted via Zoom conferencing (until further notice!). Your child will need a laptop/desktop computer with a webcam/video conferencing and their microphone enabled. We will be using password secured classrooms which will be locked once the class has begun.
